New Feature Launch
HDC Academy
We’re excited to launch HDC Academy, a new educational platform that integrates directly with HDC Discover and provides self-directed learning opportunities designed to be practical, clinically relevant and easy to navigate.
With HDC Academy, physicians and nurse practitioners can connect learning directly to their practice data, creating a more meaningful and personalized educational experience. Courses include opportunities to reflect on your practice, apply what you learn, and identify areas for improvement.
All HDC Academy courses currently available meet the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and have been certified by UBC CPD for up to 1.0 Mainpro+® Certified Assessment Activity credits per course.
Key highlights include:
- Learn from your own HDC Discover data in the context of course content.
- Clear course guidance helps learners understand when lessons must be completed before accessing Knowledge Checks or completing a course.
- Compare your practice data with regional and provincial benchmarks.
- Identify meaningful opportunities for reflection and practice improvement.
- Earn Mainpro+® Certified Assessment Activity Credits while engaging with your own practice data.
- Access educational content, knowledge checks, reflective activities, supporting resources, and BC-specific references.
- Navigate courses with ease through clear guidance on lesson completion requirements and course progress.
- HDC Academy content is now highlighted with a New indicator, making recently added courses and content easy to find.
Who Can Access the courses
Currently, all HDC Academy courses are available to registered HDC Discover family physicians and nurse practitioners who have practice data available to earn credits in accordance with Mainpro+® requirements
Users who are unable to access courses currently include:
- Data contributors whose practice data is not available due to unsupported EMRs or other data availability limitations.
- Clinic Support staff who currently do not have any practice data.
For users associated with multiple clinics, HDC Academy includes built-in validations to ensure course progress and completions remain accurate if a clinic selection changes while actively completing a course.
Available Courses:
All available courses were developed in collaboration with UBC Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD) and are eligible for up to 1.0 Mainpro+® Certified Assessment Activity credits.
- Diabetes Prevention, Screening & Diagnosis
Learn how to identify people at risk of type 2 diabetes, screen for the condition, and diagnose it early.
- Diabetes Management
Learn how to help patients manage diabetes through monitoring blood glucose targets and exploring appropriate treatment options.
- Pharmacological Management of Heart Failure
Learn about the medications used to treat heart failure and how they help improve symptoms and patient outcomes.
- Asthma Management & Medication
Learn how to assess asthma symptoms, use medications effectively, and support patients in controlling their asthma.
Upon successful completion of a course, learners will be able to download the completion certificate from HDC. Completion information will also be submitted directly to the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) to provide the eligible Mainpro+® credits.
As HDC Academy continues to grow, the goal is to offer an expanding range of learning opportunities so there is something valuable for everyone who logs in.
