I am delighted to announce that Dr. Lawrence Yang, MD, has joined his colleague, Dr. Cole Stanley, MD, in the role of Co-Medical Director, effective April 1, 2025.

Dr. Yang has been a valued member of the HDC Board of Directors since 2022, serving in various leadership positions, including Co-Chair of the Clinical Data Stewardship Committee (CDSC) and Vice-Chair of the Board. His journey with HDC began in 2017 when he was introduced to the HDC Discover application for a Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) project. Through this project, Dr. Yang utilized the data to develop strategies that enhanced his practice.

I am excited to support Dr. Yang’s transition to Co-Medical Director. HDC’s vision is to foster a learning culture where primary care data is transformed into applied knowledge; a vision Dr. Yang has embraced in multiple contexts. His extensive use of the HDC Discover App, dedicated service to the board, involvement in numerous QI initiatives, and active empowerment of Divisions of Family Practice to adopt a population health perspective within their communities will undoubtedly guide our operational team.

Additionally, HDC is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christie Newton, MD, as Vice-Chair of the Board. Dr. Newton joined the HDC Board in 2023 and has been an active member of the Governance Committee. Her optimism and commitment to strengthening and maturing the organization’s governance have made an impact. Dr. Newton brings a wealth of experience as an Associate Professor at the UBC Department of Family Practice, where she is also an Associate Head, as well as the Associate Vice President Health.

Please join me in recognizing both Dr. Yang and Dr. Newton in their new roles within the organization. We are grateful for their compassionate leadership, collective vision, and humility, which nurtures a positive culture for quality.
