At its core, HDC is a data sharing initiative that encourages self-reflection and quality improvement in patient care. Funded by Doctors of BC and the Ministry of Health through the General Practice Services Committee (GPSC), the use of primary care data in this way was initially an idea developed by a group of BC physicians. Now, family doctors across the province are choosing to join the coalition by contributing to HDC’s web-based application where aggregated data is automatically and securely transferred from their EMR.
Enrolled doctors can view, share, and compare more than 200 relevant clinical measures with colleagues in their own clinic, Division, Health Authority, or province-wide. The data can be used to better understand patterns of practice and patient populations, and implement practice improvements that lead to better patient outcomes.
